Technology is taking over our lives.
I remember the day GSM came into Nigeria
just like yesterday. I remembered how new it was to everyone and of course how
people broke the bank to get a Sim not to talk of a feature phone as at back
then.
Our parents at that time did not understand
the culture shock that hit them. Generation Y were able to absorbed the
pressure, I mean people who were born between 1980’s and 2000’s.
They practically advanced because they were
already conversant with Game consoles: Tetris, super Mario e.t.c.. Around 2008 when
Nokia came out with the Simbian phones our parents managed to keep up. The Gen Y majorly used the Simbian phones.
In fact a lot of moms then seized there
children’s phones, claiming that the phones were a distraction to the their educational
growth.
What an excuse to hide from the truth. The
truth was glaring, they could not stand their children doing all sorts with these
devices and they were stuck with their feature phones.
But the equation has change, they simply
revolted from 2013 we have witnessed a shift of parents especially mums owning
smart phones.
Sometimes they claim they are trying to
keep up with their husbands and monitoring his immoral actions in quote.
Well the facts are clear, 79% of smart
phones owning moms use social media daily.
My mother is a typical example; since she
got her iPhone she has being on top of social media. She constantly updates her
Facebook profile; she is very active on Watsapp sharing contents, playing angry
birds and many more exciting things she can lay her hands on.
Have you imagined your mom claiming to take
a better Selfie than you do? or pouting when taking a Selfie? Sounds awkward
but that’s the truth anyway.
The odds are quite alarming the figures are
growing, I wont be surprised if a mobile phone company makes a smart phone for
moms. Well
Gone were those days when moms would call
there children help to send an SMS to a friend. They know it all
Welcome to the world of Techie Moms
