Football Fans-Community Shield is here: Man United, Wigan battle for glory at Wembley

The FA Community Shield is on the horizon today, as David Moyes finally gets his first competitive game in charge of Manchester United at Wembley.
Sunday Mirror gathered that England striker Wayne Rooney has been left out of Manchester United’s squad for the cracker because of a shoulder injury, as the 27-year-old has trained with United’s reserves this week but was not deemed fit to face Wigan today.

Although the Latics were relegated from the Barclays Premier League last season, they should provide a stern test for United after making a positive start to life in the Championship, beating Barnsley 4-0 at Oakwell last weekend.
The Red Devils boss, Moyes, is set to shuffle his deck after Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial at Old Trafford on Friday, which ended in a 3-1 defeat to Sevilla. Robin Van Persie, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra are, however, all expected to return for United after missing Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial.
Nani faces a late fitness test after suffering a groin injury during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with AIK Fotboll in Stockholm. Wigan are without club captain Gary Caldwell, Ivan Ramis and Thomas Rogne as a result of injuries, but James McClean could make his debut.
Another new signing, Thomas Rogne, is out with a back problem for Wigan, though Leon Barnett and Emmerson Boyce are expected to retain their places in Owen Coyle’s side. Grant Holt will lead the line for his new club after dropping down a division from Norwich, with Marc Antoine-Fortune also in contention.
When both sides met last on New Year’s Day, Javier Hernandez and van Persie scored twice each as United coasted past Wigan 4-0 at the DW Stadium to preserve a seven-point advantage at the top of the league, a perfect present for Sir Alex Ferguson the day after his 71st birthday.
However, with Wigan’s new manager, Owen Coyle replacing Roberto Martinez in June, all is set for him to make a statement against a determined United squad.
